poem #29

"know no time"

i know no time can move as slow
when night descends
nowhere to go but dawn
and my ten-week old daughter
has me by the arms.
who, i wonder, 's holding who?
(whom, i know, but please...
exhume some other poem,
for i am tired, and too, distraught) where
i would be alone
now i cannot; where
i would take a moment to myself
there is no room.

i know no time as quick as dawn's release,
as peace surrounds the truth--
my daughter is as much mine now
as is my youth.
